Base is 6" metal similar in construction to round microphone bases and heavy enough that you dont get the wobble like you do with the tripods. You simply screw the plastic rod into the base and you are set to go. The rod wont harm your instrument either. No unfolding, no legs to spring , step on, bend or trip over.
