    Description

Joseph Guarnerius German full size 4/4 Violin
I'm asking 00.00 or Best Offer!   I had it Appraised at Classic Violins in Mundelein, IL.
The label pasted inside this violin says: "Joseph Guarnerius fecit Cremonae anno 17_ _ IHS"
and the word "Germany" on the side. The label identifies the maker, age, and place of manufacture. The McKinley Tariff Act of 1890 required all products imported to the United States be marked with their country of origin. in 1914 the act was revised to require that the words “Made in” be used as well. So this label says simply “Germany” it’s probably post-McKinley, but before 1914.
It's a superb example of pre-war German craftsmanship. noting the outer contour of the violin, which is one of the more important aspects of the instrument, the neck, which is carved out of a separate piece of maple wood, the two stylish soundholes (f-holes) precisely placed between the C-bouts and lower corner, the top, the back, the ribs (sides) of the box with a matching striped figure, called "flame." German Luthiers supplied musicians with serviceable and affordable stringed instruments.
The soundpost dowel is sturdy inside the instrument under the treble end of the bridge, spanning the space between the top and back plates and held in place by friction. It serves as a structural support for an archtop instrument, transfers sound from the top plate to the back plate and alters the tone of the instrument by changing the vibrational modes of the plates.
All the fittings: the Ebony tuning pegs, the tailpiece with fine tuners, the tailgut made of animal gut, the endpin and the  chinrest, are all in good condition.
The fingerboard, the nut, the neck and the pegbox are in good condition also.
    The bow might need re-hairing.
The case is still quite solid.
This Violin Probably needs to be Set-up to your playing preferences to optimize its voice and response such as new strings, positioning of the Bridge, lubricating the pegs with peg dope and adjusting the fine tuners, string spacing and action height.
